Thousands of Indonesian workers in the Middle East have stopped working because they have not received their salaries, according to this article - Opens in new tab from Malaysia's national news bureau.

Indonesia recently ran a programme to repatriate over 2000 'problem' migrant workers from Gulf countries including the UAE and Qatar. This targeted workers who were stranded abroad with fake ID's, left without payment, or sexually abused by their employers.

Out of 2116 workers repatriated between Oct 27th 2009 and Jan 19th 2010, 80% were not receiving salaries from their employers, government official Teguh Wardoyo told reporters.

"Besides the unpaid salaries, about ten other percents get sexual abuses and the other ten percents get physical violence from their employers," he said.
