MRRORS has extensively covered the abuses of female domestic workers in Lebanon. Now, some of these women are summoning the courage to fight back against their abusers by bringing legal cases against them. This article - Opens in new tab in AFP tells the story of 22 year old Nanda, a Sri Lankan woman who is one of the first to break the silence. She is taking legal action with the help of Lebanese NGO Caritas against her employer who semi-starved her, forced her to work for seven days a week and turned a blind eye when the children of the household beat her.

Caritas says that they hope that Nanda will be able to repeat the success of Filipina maid Jonaline Malibagu, who won a landmark case in 2009, resulting in the imprisonment of her employer.
